10 Most Powerful Lines from the Fullmetal Alchemist Manga

↳ (6/10) Trisha Elric: "Don't call yourself a monster."

I love this line so much mostly for the fact that it had such an impact on Hohenheim. For all those years he had been alive, suffering, he had always thought that he was a monster for what happened with Father. But then Trisha comes along and tells him, no, you are not a monster. And he’s so surprised, because she was a human, just like all the souls in his body were, and she doesn’t degrade him or hate him, she accepts him. It’s almost like she forgives him, and that he was forgiven for all his indirect sins that he’s so guilty of.

What I look for in a girl:

  • Water, 35 litres
  • Carbon, 20 kilograms
  • Ammonia, 4 litres
  • Lime, 1.5 kilograms
  • Phosphorus, 800 grams
  • Salt, 250 grams
  • Saltpeter, 100 grams
  • Sulfur, 80 grams
  • Fluorine, 7.5 grams
  • Iron, 5 grams
  • Silicon, 3 grams
  • Trace amounts of 15 other elements

It’d probably cost you like an arm and a leg for this deal

That is not okay.

Lust is foolish. Or rather, Lust has a major weakness - she cares about the end results with little regard as to how they get done. Roy is a perfectionist - a strategist with a plan and highly qualified people who will get everything done with their own set of skills. They are literal foils so it drives me absolutely batshit when people claim that Roy meeting Lust is some kind of metaphorical face off of a playboy and his lustiness, especially when only just last chapter we established that the girl on the other end of the line is Riza and the other girls are code names for members of his team.
Roy is acting on love for his team. He has an end goal, but cares about how it gets done. The process matters because end doesn’t justify every means. He’s got plans to run the country but his reasons will slowly unfold over time. He’s got ideas and schemes and back up plans and he is stealthy, quick and even underhanded. Hiccups in the road get taken care of but he never gets rid of something until it’s absolutely necessary.
Lust is acting because she can’t wait for the results. Lust is bloodlust. Jean Havoc was useless to her because he didn’t spill about his work life, and therefore she deemed him to be not too bright. Quite the opposite. Havoc is a genius in his own way, and would never compromise his team or the mission. Lust didn’t care after he became useless to her. She doesn’t care how Envy and Gluttony get the job done, only that they do. They’re at her beck and call, they messed up their job, and now she’s stepping in.
Roy and Lust are opposites. Roy steps in because his help is needed, because he has to protect his team, because he’s invested. Lust steps in because her lackeys failed and she needs people dead already.
I needed to post this because Havoc is a smart, trustworthy guy who knows what he’s doing and Roy and Lust are exact opposites.

god THANK YOU it annoys me so much especially with that post floating around that says “lust was killed by a womaniser” because it reduces and undermines both Roy AND Lust’s characters and devalues their confrontation.

10 Most Powerful Lines from the Fullmetal Alchemist Manga

↳ (7/10) Alphonse Elric: "I don't want to be alone at night anymore..!!"

This makes me want to cry. In the manga, we don’t really see much of Al at night (except maybe these two panels) so we can’t truly understand how painful it is to be alone all night every night or the horrible despair he has to be with. But when Al says that line, it is blatantly obvious that it is horrifying. All the unnecessary thoughts that he comes up with, all the guilt he pushes to himself, and the isolation he is forced into every night would drive any person mad. But see, that’t the amazing thing about Al. For four years he was in that armor and he was always the adorable Alphonse he was when he was ten (a little more mature, though). He overcame that challenge and put his terrifying body to use to help others. He was a suit of armor but he managed to stay as human as anyone else.

Why the strong female characters of FMA will always be my favorite strong female characters.

you can cry, you can be squeal, you can despair, you can show your feels and you can still have the strongest heart and be baddest badass that ever there was. yup.

10 Most Powerful Lines from the Fullmetal Alchemist Manga

↳ (3/10) Roy Mustang: "He would never subject Alphonse to it."
I’m genuinely upset that they didn’t incorporate this part in the anime (Brotherhood). I feel like it’s very important for the character development and story. It sheds a light on a different perspective of Ed. In both the manga and anime, when he performed human transmutation, Ed was seen as really brave and selfless when giving up his arm for Al’s soul. But what about before that? This is what this scene shows. That Ed was alone. He was scared. He was terrified. Which is so realistic since he was so young at the time. And Mustang’s line of, “he would never subject Alphonse to it,” shows just how much Ed cares for Al, and also shows how the people around him (re: Mustang) can see that too and understand him so well.
